Common skittering frog (Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis)

Indian skipper frog or skittering frog (Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis) is a common frog recorded in Iran, Afghanistan,  Pakistan, India,  Nepal, Sri Lanka. This is member of Dicroglossidae family. Typically observed on the edge of the waterbodies with their eyes above water, and upon disturbance move inside the water skipping on water making noise, which earns the common name. This is rarely found outside water. It is a good pest control since it feeds on different insects and larvae voraciously.

Lilac tasselflower (Emilia sonchifolia)

Lilac tasselflower or Cupid's shaving brush (Emilia sonchifolia) is tropical flowring plant of sunflower family. Widespread plant in tropical regions around the world, but believed to be native of Asia (China, India, Southeast Asia) and naturalized elsewhere.

One of the Dashpushpam in Kerala. It is also used in traditional Chinese medicine as well as Vietnam.

Common Sailor (Neptis hylas)

Common Sailor (Neptis hylas), is a species of brush-footed butterflies (Nymphalidae family) found in the Indian subcontinent and South-East Asia. Another butterfly described by Linnaeus in Systema Naturae.

It has a characteristic stiff gliding flight, short and shallow wingbeats just above the horizontal, which probably earned the common name sailor. There are more than 150 species of this genus Neptis which are all referred as Sailors or typical sailors and are form old world.

Four sub-species seen in India out of which only one in mainland Indian Common Sailer (Neptis hylas varmona) and rest three are in Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Fulvous Pied Flat (Pseudocoladenia dan)

Fulvous Pied Flat (Pseudocoladenia dan) is distributed in Indomalyan realm. It is a Spread-Winged Skipper (Pyrginae subfamily of Hesperiidae family). 

Originally described by Fabricius in 1787 as Papilio dan. Two subspecies are seen in India first Pseudocoladenia dan dan or Sahyadri Fulvous Pied Flat and Pseudocoladenia dan fabia or Himalayan Fulvous Pied Flat seen in NE India. Another species Pseudocoladenia faith or Western Himalayan Pied Flat was treated as a subspecies earlier.

Odontolabis Beetles

Odontolabis is a genus of beetles belonging to the Lucanidae family. Members of this genus are usually large, oblong and shiny with males having enlarged head and jaws. In some species the males have different shapes of the jaws (polymorphic). This genus is south east Asian. This particular one I met in Wynad, Kerala, India.
