The northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a North American bird of family Cardinalidae. It is seen from southern Canada all the up to Belize and Guatemala. It is a territorial song bird of which mails would chase off other males. Commonly seen in inhabited areas such as backyards, parks, woodlots, and shrubby forest edges.
