Asian Lady Beetle (Harmonia axyridis)

Asian ladybeetle (Harmonia axyridis) also commonly known as the harlequin, multicolored Asian, is a large coccinellid beetle.

This is one of the most variable species in the world, with an exceptionally wide range of color forms. It is native to eastern Asia, but has been artificially introduced to North America and Europe to control aphids and scale insects. It has become invasive in some places.

The name "ladybird" originated in Britain where the insects became known as "Our Lady's bird" or the Lady beetle. Mary (Our Lady) was often depicted wearing a red cloak in early paintings, and the spots of the seven-spot ladybird (the most common in Europe) were said to symbolize her seven joys and seven sorrows.

Agasta formosa

Agasta formosa is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Chrysomelinae distributed in South China and Indo-Malayan region.

This is the type species of the genus Agasta described by Hope in 1840, which was monotypic genus then. Now it has one more species Agasta annamica. Both species are fairly distinct morphologically.

I met this in Samsing in Paschimbanga. We do not see many records of this species, so if you have seen this please share the information with us.

Odontolabis Beetles

Odontolabis is a genus of beetles belonging to the Lucanidae family. Members of this genus are usually large, oblong and shiny with males having enlarged head and jaws. In some species the males have different shapes of the jaws (polymorphic). This genus is south east Asian. This particular one I met in Wynad, Kerala, India.
